Princess Eugenie has suffered a blow as Meghan Markle has overtaken the Princess of York’s Instagram followers despite the Duchess of Sussex first posting only a month ago.
Princess Eugenie’s first post was in 2018 to mark International Women’s day.
She wrote: “I can think of no better day than today, International Women’s Day, to launch my personal Instagram. I hope to use this platform to share the causes, passions and people close to my heart.”
The Princess of York, who has the handle @princesseugenie, has gained 1.8 million followers, while regularly uploading to the personal account over the last six years.

In comparison, Meghan Markle has amassed two million followers on Instagram seven weeks after launching her personal account under the handle @meghan.
The pair are thought to be close friends, with Eugenie being the first royal introduced to the former actress when she first started dating Prince Harry in 2016.
Eugenie also made a brief appearance in the Sussexes debut Netflix series, Harry & Meghan, where the royal is shown playing with Prince Archie on a beach in California.
In a move that seemly strengthens the two family's relationship, Harry and Meghan reportedly brought a property in Portugal just minutes away from Eugenie and her husband’s home.
The Princess of York and Jack Brooksbank split their time between the UK and the European destination.
Both families have two children and are not working royals since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would be stepping back as senior working royals in January 2020.
After nearly five years away from social media, Meghan made her surprise return to social media on January 1, despite vowing never to return.
The Duchess of Sussex launched the account with a beach video teasing upcoming projects for 2025.

Since launching her account, the Duchess has used the profile to promote her rebranded lifestyle project 'as ever' and share a trailer for her Netflix show 'With love, Meghan'.
Her first post featured a video of her drawing '2025' in the sand near her Montecito home.
The account has also taken a personal turn, with Meghan sharing a tribute to her late dog and posting a Valentine's Day message to Prince Harry.
