Princess Charlotte could break tradition with a "career away from the Royal Family", an inside source has claimed.

As the only daughter of Prince William and Princess Kate, the nine-year-old follows her father and elder brother, Prince George, in the succession line.

It has been reported that after learning about the vital contributions of NHS staff from her father, Charlotte showed an inclination towards nursing as a profession.

A source revealed to New Idea magazine: "She's obviously just a little kid but still, Will and Kate swelled with pride.

"She's such a caring little girl who also knows what she wants, so they wouldn't be surprised if she does take on nursing as one of her big causes when she's older."

Charlotte's future role within the Royal Family may mirror that of Princess Anne, the sister of King Charles.

Together with her younger brother Louis, Charlotte is anticipated to occupy a senior royal position and potentially inherit significant titles.

Meanwhile, it has been suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales are keen for their younger children to enjoy greater freedom in their lives.

Camilla Tominey, a GB News presenter, has suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales will encourage their children to pursue their own careers if they wish.

She further stated that they would not want Louis to follow in the footsteps of the Duke of York and become a "royal hanger-on".

This sentiment is echoed by former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond, who told OK!: "William and Kate must be acutely aware of the problems of a royal spare.

"They have already shown that they have a different and modern attitude to bringing up royal children and I'm sure they will do everything to make Charlotte and Louis feel every bit as special, loved and valued as George.

"I imagine they will encourage Louis to explore life outside the royal fold... it could be the military, but it could also be working in the charity world or whatever he finds appealing after his education is finished.

"I'm sure they will encourage him to go to university, which they both enjoyed and where, of course, they found love."

She added: "And from there they will want him to find a life that is meaningful to him as well as appropriate for the son of a future King.

"They will try to ensure that he feels he is living a life of value, irrespective of his place in the line of succession and that will probably involve service of some kind as they have emphasised from the start that they want their children to understand that having empathy with others is not only a kindness, but is rewarding as well."
