The Monegasque Royal Family is mourning the loss of Fernanda Biffi Casiraghi, who died at the age of 99.

The matriarch, who was the mother-in-law of Princess Caroline of Monaco, died on December 7, just months before her centenary birthday.

Her death has particularly affected Princess Caroline, who maintained a close relationship with her mother-in-law in the years following the tragic death of her second husband, Stefano Casiraghi.

The loss resonates deeply within the Monegasque royal household, where family ties have always been cherished and maintained across generations.

The funeral service for Fernanda Biffi Casiraghi took place on Monday in Italy, bringing together members of Monaco's Royal Family in mourning.

Princess Caroline was joined by her children Andrea, Charlotte and Pierre Casiraghi at the emotional farewell.

Pierre's wife, Beatrice Borromeo, was also present to support her husband during this difficult time.

The service was held near the family's villa in Fino Mornasco, located in the Province of Como in the Italian region of Lombardy.

Mourners, all dressed in black or navy as a mark of respect, gathered to pay their final respects.

The funeral wreaths featured pink, white and red flowers, creating a touching tribute to the departed matriarch.

Princess Caroline was seen reading the floral tributes as she arrived at the church, in a poignant moment of remembrance.

Fernanda Biffi Casiraghi was a prominent figure in Monaco's business community, having founded the Italian Entrepreneurs Association in Monaco.

She was the mother of Princess Caroline's late husband, Stefano Casiraghi, who died tragically in a powerboat racing accident in 1990.

Fernanda Biffi Casiraghi had three other children, Marco, Daniele (who died in 2016), and Rosalba.

She was widowed in 1998 following the death of her husband, businessman Giancarlo Casiraghi.

Despite the loss of her son Stefano, Fernanda maintained strong family bonds, particularly with her grandson, Pierre Casiraghi.

She lived to see her great-grandchildren, as Pierre was able to introduce his young sons Stefano and Francesco, born in 2017 and 2018, to their great-grandmother.

The funeral service was marked by intimate moments of family support and solidarity.
