Sarah Ferguson revealed that she is "not out of the woods" yet after receiving a second cancer diagnosis in a single year

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have been "rock solid" in supporting their mother with her illness, Sarah Ferguson has claimed.

It was revealed in January that Sarah had a mole removed from her body which was tested as a malignant melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer.

Fergie, 64, was hit with this health scare just six months after she was treated for breast cancer.

In a new interview, Fergie said: "Two cancer diagnoses within the space of a year was obviously a shock.

"In such a situation, you certainly face your mortality and it has been somewhat of an annus horribilis. But right now, I feel fit and well.

"My doctors tell me I can't use the term 'cancer-free' and I am having regular check-ups, but there seems to be no spread of either the breast cancer or melanoma, which is good news.

"So I'm not entirely out of the woods, but I'm a resilient person and I am hugely positive about the future."

The mother-of-two went on to praise the Royal Family for comforting her during her difficult time, especially her daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

She said: "My girls in particular have been rock solid in their support," she continued to tell Bella Magazine.

"The wider family has also been enormously supportive and I'm very grateful."

This comes after the Royal Family has been rocked with varying health scares in recent months.

The Princess of Wales has faced serious health concerns this year, beginning with major abdominal surgery in January.

This saw Kate, 42, being hospitalised at The London Clinic for 13 days before returning home to Adelaide Cottage.

The mother-of-three later announced she had begun a course of preventative chemotherapy after tests found that cancer was present.

As a result, the princess has stepped back from public life until she has fully recovered.

Prince William initially stepped back to support his wife but has begun a slow and staggered return to royal life.

The King was also diagnosed with a form of cancer earlier in the year but seems to have mostly returned to his royal duties.
