The 35-year-old has been named 2024’s best-dressed person in Britain

Princess Beatrice has been “inspired by Kate and Meghan Markle”, after the royal underwent a style transformation.

The 35-year-old has been named 2024’s best-dressed person in Britain, a far-cry from the dowdy and bulky ensembles the royal was previously known for a decade ago.

She topped Tatler’s list of the country’s finest dressed, despite going viral for the bizarre fawn-coloured hat she wore at Princess Kate and Prince William's wedding, a choice which the publication described as the "subject of much jest”. The eye-catching hat inspired numerous memes back in 2011.

However, this did not stop the royal from sweeping up the accolade, with the publication describing her as “a beacon of sartorial elegance” who “pairs vintage-inspired cuts with fresh-from-the-catwalk glamour”.

A stylist has suggested that Beatrice’s fashion transformation, in which she has really “stepped up her game”, could have been inspired by her cousins’ wives, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle - both well-renowned for their distinctive and timeless styles.

Rochelle White told FEMAIL: “She would have seen the press surrounding them and their garments of choice, who they wore in regards to brands and even the relationships they have with designers.”

Beatrice had previously been featured on worst-dressed lists, and The Mail called her 2011 fascinator look “outlandish”.

A Facebook page called “Princess Beatrice's ridiculous wedding hat” was even created, however, it has since been deleted.

Eugenie was also subjected to criticism online for her look at the wedding, and both reportedly cried over articles that dissed their fascinators.

White added: “I feel that in a way with the comments about her style and look, she reflected and decided that it was time to switch it up.

“I also think that when you get older you get more comfortable in who you are and your style. So, I feel that has helped her and maybe she is also working with a team to help her.”

Lisa Talbot, a personal stylist, said that Beatrice’s style evolution was one everyone embarked on as they got older and discovered their sense of self.

She said: “With age comes confidence in yourself and who you are. This is why I think Beatrice has adapted her style from that where she was known as frumpy to best dressed.”

Talbot said that life changes, including her marriage and the birth of her son, has moulded Beatrice into the woman she is now with her own confident sense of style.

The full top 25 list can be seen in the September issue of Tatler, which will go on sale on Thursday, August 1.
