Princess Anne's husband gained a black eye from a "gardening incident", Buckingham Palace sources have said.
Sir Timothy Laurence, who celebrated his 69th birthday last week, attended the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's 200th anniversary earlier today.

Sir Timothy continued to attend the service marking the 200th anniversary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), for which he is a Vice President, despite the injury.
The ceremony was also attended by the Duke of Kent, 88, the president of the RNLI.
Prince Edward, Duke of Kent signed the charity’s 200th pledge scroll alongside the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Dean of Westminster.
The Archbishop hailed RNLI staff as “models for everyone” who “risk their lives for those who are not known to them”.

Since the charity’s formation in 1824, lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved more than 144,000 lives.
It comes as Princess Anne, 73, recently spent her husband’s 69th birthday working in Dubai on a royal tour.
The Princess Royal was called for royal duty to attend the Seafarers Awareness and Orientation Day in Jebel Ali for the special occasion.
Sir Timothy was formerly a commander in the Royal Navy.

The couple met while he was serving on the Royal Yacht Britannia.
Before his position on the royal yacht, he was an equerry to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
They married in December 1992 at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral in a private service with just 30 guests.
The wedding had to take place in Scotland where divorced people were permitted to remarry in a church.

Princess Anne had divorced her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, earlier that year.
In an ITV show about Anne released in 2020, Sir Timothy spoke about his and the princess’s similarities stating: “We are both map and chart people.
"We like to know where we are and see where we are going.”
He also joked about Anne’s marriage to her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, saying: “It’s quite amusing that she married first an army officer and then a naval officer. So there must be something about the military that attracts her.”
