Prince William’s adviser praises his ‘human-focused’ approach amid Prince Harry olive branch

Cohen-Hatton was once a homeless teenager living on the streets in Newport, selling The Big Issue to support herself before achieving a PhD, and now advising Prince William.

She shared her story ahead of a documentary on Prince William's Homeward programme, which is aiming to end homelessness in five years.

Cohen-Hatton, 41, praised the Prince of Wales's commitment to practical solutions based on real-world experiences.

She told This Morning: "He's amazing and I'm one of several advocates, we've all got our own experience of homelessness or we've been touched by homelessness in some way.

"One of the things he was really keen on was making sure that he's listening to people who have been there so we can try and do things that are really practical."

The adviser added: "Every time I've met the prince, he has been so focused on the human impact of homelessness and I think it's really easy when you're trying to do a programme as big as this and a challenge as big as ending homelessness to just focus on the strategy and forget about the people.

"But he's so focused on the trauma and the complexity and the impact on individuals and that for me has been a real privilege to be able to see that in action."

This comes amid the Prince of Wales's olive branch directed towards his younger brother, the Duke of Sussex.

The heir to the throne mentioned his brother Prince Harry during the documentary in what appeared to be an olive branch amid their feud.

Prince William revealed his commitment to tackling homelessness, inspired by childhood visits to shelters with his mother, Princess Diana.

The Prince of Wales's first visit to a homeless shelter occurred in December 1993, when Princess Diana took him and Prince Harry to The Passage, a charity supporting newly homeless individuals.

William said: "She took Harry and I both there. I must have been about 11, I think probably... Maybe 10. I'd never been to anything like that before.

"I remember at the time kind-of thinking, well if everyone has not got a home, they're all going to be really sad. But it was incredible how happy an environment it was."

These comments marked a rare mention of Harry by the heir to the throne as the brothers are currently not on speaking terms.
