The campaign has raised more than £15million to replace London's Air Ambulance helicopters

Prince William has been thanked after personally donating money to help London's Air Ambulance appeal.

The Duke of Cambridge is patron of London's Air Ambulance Charity and has supported the charity throughout their recent #UpAgainstTime appeal.

The appeal set a target of £15million to replace the helicopters for the London-based service, which the Prince said would have "life-saving impact."

The charity, which serves the capital, is funded through public donations and fundraising.

A spokesperson from the charity said: "We are thrilled to announce we have passed our #UpAgainstTime appeal target of £15million to replace our helicopters and keep them flying for years to come.

"Thank you to London's incredible communities for your unwavering support. From businesses and dedicated fundraisers to generous individuals - each one of you made this possible, for which we are eternally grateful.

"We would also like to thank our Patron, The Prince of Wales, who has supported our appeal throughout – both publicly and privately.

"He has continued to champion our crucial work in delivering life-saving treatment across the capital throughout our appeal."

William personally responded, thanking the charity for their work.

He said on social media: "Fantastic news! This is going to have a life-saving impact. A huge thank you to everyone who donated."

William had previously worked as a pilot with the East Anglia Air Ambulance in eastern England, a role he gave up in 2017 to focus on his royal duties.

London Air Ambulance relies on fundraising and public donations for funding and is made up of doctors, pilots, paramedics and others working as first responders across London.

In 2019, the prince supported the 30th anniversary of the London Air Ambulance charity flying with a crew to launch the 30 Years Saving Lives campaign.

Jonathon Jenkins, SEO of London's Air Ambulance Charity stated: "We are honoured that The Prince of Wales has chosen to become Patron of London’s Air Ambulance charity after getting to know us last year.

"The Prince truly understands our work and knows that every second counts in an emergency.

"We know that with his help as well as the continued support of the public, our crews can reach those who need them most - serving the people of London 24 hours a day, every day of the year."
