The Prince of Wales is currently in Estonia on a two-day diplomatic mission

Prince William is currently in Estonia on a two-day diplomatic mission representing the UK government and Foreign Office, with royal commentator Helena Chard describing his role as "a great example of soft power".

Speaking to GB News, Chard highlighted the significance of the Prince of Wales' visit, which comes at a crucial time for reassuring Estonians of Britain's commitment to their security amid concerns about Russian aggression.

Diplomatic sources have indicated that Estonia fears it could be a target for Russia following any potential peace deal with Ukraine.

There are concerns that Russia could re-arm rapidly and threaten Ukraine again or attack Estonia and other Northern European Nato allies.

Speaking about this on GB News, royal commentator Helena Chard said: "Prince William, at the moment, is involved in international diplomacy, which is such a great example of soft power.

"He is in Estonia as well. This visit has been arranged for a long time, over the last couple of years.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

"He will be there for a two-day trip on behalf of our government and the Foreign Office, reassuring the Estonians of our commitment to both their security and other matters.

"He will also be meeting our troops and seeing exactly what is going on there. It's really great to see him on centre stage; he truly is a statesman now.

"I believe the Mercia Regiment is based there, and he is the Colonel-in-Chief of the Mercia Regiment.

"Obviously, he will be observing how they are strengthening the borders, especially given that it’s a 200-mile border with Russia.

"This is an important time, and Prince William will be meeting with everyone, along with the Royal Family.

"Keir Starmer has already visited the troops, and I believe our senior royals are playing a key role in Ukraine diplomacy, particularly in Estonia."

This visit comes at a particularly timely moment as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer holds talks with his counterparts about potential troop involvement in any ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

William will also hear from clean tech companies innovating in renewable energy and technology.

This follows the Baltic states' recent disconnection from the Russian-controlled electricity grid and their joining of the main European electricity network.

The visit demonstrates Britain's ongoing commitment to Estonia's security in the face of regional tensions.
