A Year 5 pupil named Mohammed approached the Prince of Wales with the question

Prince William has drawn praise for his humble response when a young student asked if he was the King during a recent visit to a Liverpool school.

During his visit to St Nicholas Catholic Academy on January 23, a Year 5 pupil named Mohammed approached the Prince of Wales with the question: "Hello, are you the King?"

William's response was notably modest, simply stating: "No, I'm not, no. I'm his son," referring to King Charles, before warmly engaging with the student about his day at school.

The interaction between the royal and young Mohammed continued warmly, with the pair even taking a selfie together.

During the visit, someone attempted to remove Mohammed's hat in the cold weather, which prompted William to intervene.

"Don't worry. He needs it on to keep his ears warm. It's cold out here, it's very cold today," the Prince said, rubbing his hands to emphasise the chilly conditions.

The school later shared the heartwarming moment on social media platform X, celebrating that their "amazing year 5 Children managed to not only have a chat with @KensingtonRoyal Prince William, he also managed to get a selfie!"

Social media users were quick to praise William's respectful response to Mohammed's question.

"I love the humility and respect in this moment. Instead of saying, 'I'm the prince', he simply said, I am his son," one commenter noted.

Another observer wrote: "Just love how he said 'I'm his son', he didn't say 'no I am a Prince.'"

"I like that he didn't say 'not yet!'" added a third person.

The comments highlighted how William's choice of words demonstrated honour for his father, with one user calling it "a beautiful display of grace and humility."

The visit was part of Prince William's engagement in Liverpool's Toxeth area, where he met with community groups working to support local young people.

During his time at local schools, William also shared a relatable parenting moment when discussing children's responses about their school day.

"I ask my children this every day, and they always say absolutely nothing at all," he joked, relating to other students who couldn't remember what they had learned.

The 42-year-old Prince of Wales demonstrated his natural ability to connect with young people throughout the visit, drawing from his experience as a father of three.
