Royal protocol forbids certain royals from travelling together in the same plane to protect the line of succession

Prince William did not break royal protocol by refusing to separate George, Charlotte and Louis during their recent trip abroad, a royal commentator told GB News.

The family are believed to have flown to the Caribbean on the same flight.

Traditionally, royal protocol forbids certain royals from travelling together in the same plane to protect the line of succession.

A royal commentator, Richard Fitzwilliams, has told GB News that although this protocol does exist, the rule has been relaxed in recent years.

He told the Peoples Channel: "There is indeed this royal protocol, but I think the idea the Prince of Wales and his children can't be on the same flight is stretching it.

"It is true some attention would have to be made if there was considered any sort of risk.

"This rule was followed probably more in the past than now.

"They probably wouldn't have King Charles and the Prince of Wales on the same flight, but the protocol rules have flexibility."

Prince William is the first in line to the throne, with his eldest son, George, and then Charlotte following in the current succession plan.

Prince George, who was born on July 22, 2013, is due to turn 12 later this year, an age where royal children are traditionally separated from their parents when travelling.

It is still unclear is the Wales family will separate their children when travelling in the future, with Kate and George taking a different mode of transport to William, Charlotte and Louis.

The Prince and Princess of Wales reportedly travelled with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis together.

The family were also joined by Kate's mother, Carole Middleton, according to the Mail.

The trip comes as the three children have a half-term break from school.
