Criticism levelled at Prince William and Princess Kate for their relatively low level of royal engagements is unfair, according to a royal commentator.
It comes after it was revealed Kate only completed 123 engagements this year, making her the seventh-hardest working royal.
But according to Kinsey Schofield, this is simply a case of the Princess of Wales “working smarter, not harder”.
Speaking to GB News, the royal commentator also claimed the couple feel a sense of “urgency” when it comes to spending time with their children.

Schofield suggested the couple will look to be with George, Charlotte and Louis more the closer they get to the throne.
Questioned by Patrick Christys about the likes of Queen Camilla, Prince Edward and Princess Anne being ahead of the couple on the list, Schofield outlined a clear difference.

“You’ve listed off a group of people that are working harder than them that don’t have babies at home”, she said.
“I believe that Catherine, the Princess of Wales, is a human jungle gym. We’ve seen her at public events with children, they’re crawling all over her.
“She’s a great mum. The closer that William and Catherine get to the throne, there’s a sense of urgency to spend time with their children and to help their babies develop into good, normal human beings.
“Kate was torn apart for working close to Windsor, working close to her home.
“These are two people that work smarter, not harder, and that’s okay. I think their strategy in the end will mean they’re going to bring up brilliant, kind, wonderful people that don’t behave like their uncle, Prince Harry.”
Analysis by the Telegraph saw the Princess of Wales below the Duke of Gloucester in a list of the number of engagements completed by each royal in 2023.
This has prompted criticism for the Princess, with some taking to X (formerly Twitter) to vent their frustrations.
One said: "128 engagements from the Princess of Wales. What. A. Joke. She should be ashamed. 172 from William is also unacceptable.
“Should expect at least 250 from the heir to the throne. These are their prime years, they’re wasting them."
Another wrote: "Now that all of the children are in school, they should be getting four to six engagements in a week, each.
"Even more if you consider how many times multiple engagements are done in a day (see Princess Anne and The King's numbers)."
