Prince William is set to feature in a new documentary just a nine days before Princess Kate's much anticipated Christmas carol service.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have shared a message on their social media promoting the Earthshot Report 2024 documentary, introduced by William, who founded the prize in 2020.

The BBC documentary, hosted by British award-winning actress Hannah Waddington, will be available to stream on December 15, nine days before Princess Kate's carol service will be broadcast.

Despite airing worldwide on Christmas Eve, the Together At Christmas carol service will take place at Westminster Abbey on December 6, with the Prince and Princess of Wales leading the Royal Family members in attendance.

The heir to the throne appears in the video, echoing his environmental ambitions, which he last reinforced in a speech in South Africa.

He said: "The planet needs our help and every year counts.

"So, what have we achieved in 2024?"

The Prince of Wales's introduction was followed by a message from Waddington urging viewers to examine the environmental efforts taking place worldwide.

"Join us in a special look back at the year exploring the game-changing solutions on our journey to a sustainable future," she said.

Prince William travelled to Cape Town for the fourth annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in November.

The 42-year-old met with finalists Notpla, Amazon Sacred Headwaters, Restor, and Mukuru Clean Stoves, who will all share their personal stories behind the ideas in the new show.

The Prince of Wales looked in good spirits as he attended the ceremony without Kate, with the Princess staying in the UK to focus on her health.

The mother of two announced in September that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment, and it was understood that her Christmas Carol service was a key date she aimed to be healthy enough to host.

William founded the Earthshot Prize four years ago to encourage the scaling-up of groundbreaking solutions to repair the planet, with a £50million prize fund spanning over 10 years.

Hannah Jones, chief executive of the Earthshot Prize, said: "At a time when there is so much pessimism about the environment, The Earthshot Report is the dose of urgent optimism we need.

"We are proud to be able to amplify the inspiring stories of Earthshot innovators and showcase the growing global movement of climate creativity they are leading.

"We are honoured to collaborate with the BBC and PBS to bring these compelling stories of Earthshot innovators and entrepreneurs to millions of people across the globe."
