Prince William has stepped out for a royal engagement just hours after King Charles returned to public duties for the first time since being diagnosed with cancer.

The Prince of Wales is carrying out engagements in the Northeast of England.


William visited Earthshot Prize finalist Low Carbon Materials in Seaham.

The royal saw firsthand how the company make their cutting-edge, carbon-negative products, and heard about the impact that being nominated for the Earthsot Prize has had on Low Carbon Materials.

The Prince of Wales has also travelled to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne to officially open James’ Place Newcastle and hear about the crucial lifeline that the charity’s new centre will provide to men experiencing suicidal crisis in the region.

William's engagements come as King Charles returned to public royal duties for the first time since his cancer diagnosis.

The King visited a cancer centre today where he met with patients and staff.

King Charles hopes that the visit will raise awareness of the importance of an early cancer diagnosis.

Today it was announced that the monarch will become the patron of Cancer Research UK.

King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived at the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre in London just after 11am today.

The King looked overjoyed to be returning to public duties today as he waved and smiled at the crowd outside the medical centre.

King Charles will look to bring his own ongoing experience to the position of patron for Cancer Research UK.

Buckingham Palace announced in February that the King had been diagnosed with a form of cancer.

The monarch stepped back from public-facing duties following his diagnosis.

His Majesty still has the disease and is undergoing treatment but has been given the all-clear to resume public duties by his doctors.

The King is expected to undertake several public-facing engagements next month.
