Prince William has opened up on the "hardest year of his life" and said the last 10 months have been "brutal" for his family.

The Prince of Wales has given a candid interview discussing the challenges he and the Royal Family have faced in 2024.

Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer in February this year.

A month later, the Princess of Wales revealed her own cancer diagnosis in an emotional video message to the world.

Prince William stressed his pride at the resilience shown by his father and wife during their cancer battles.

When asked how 2024 has been for him, the prince said: "Honestly? It's been dreadful. It's probably been the hardest year in my life.

"So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult.

"But I'm so proud of my wife, I'm proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done.

The Prince of Wales gave the interview following the conclusion of The Earthshot Prize award ceremony in Cape Town.

Princess Kate did not travel to South Africa to attend the event as she continues to focus on her health.

The princess has made three public appearances since her cancer diagnosis including attending Trooping the Colour in June, Wimbledon in July and undertaking her first joint public engagement with Prince William in Southport last month.

In September, Kate confirmed that she had completed her course of preventative chemotherapy treatment.

King Charles stepped back from royal duties for a couple of months once his cancer diagnosis was confirmed.

However, the monarch returned to undertaking public engagements in late April.

The King undertook a 10-day tour of Australia and Samoa alongside Queen Camilla in October.

The monarch paused his cancer treatment during the international royal tour but has resumed it following his return.
