Prince William said two "amazing and kind" nurses looked after Princess Kate while she was recuperating in hospital.
The Prince of Wales was speaking to an MBE recipient as he wore his RAF uniform to hand out more than 50 honours on Wednesday.
William is now the monarchy's most prominent public figure while his father, King Charles, recuperates at Sandringham after his first cancer treatment and his wife, Kate, stays at home following abdominal surgery.
The prince chatted warmly to Patricia Spruce, who was made an MBE for her work recruiting foreign medics for the NHS.

Spruce shared afterwards that she had asked Prince William about the Princess of Wales's health.
Taking to LinkedIn, she wrote: "Prince William said that Katherine had two Filipino nurses looking after her and they were amazing and kind."
In addition, Ellen White, who was also made an MBE, said she gave her "best wishes" to Kate and the King.
Asked how William responded, she said: "He really appreciated it. So yeah, it was something that obviously I wanted to send my best wishes."

King Charles has postponed all public-facing duties but is continuing with behind-the-scenes work.
Downing Street has confirmed that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's weekly audience with the King will be held later over the phone.
Prince William had a second engagement on Wednesday, as he appeared at a charity gala in the evening.
The King's cancer treatment as an outpatient started earlier this week in London, before he returned with the Queen to his Sandringham home in Norfolk.

Prince William may step in to represent his father at future public events, however, no engagements are scheduled at the moment.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry flew to London from California on Tuesday to see his father for 45 minutes at Clarence House, following the King's cancer diagnosis.
He has since returned to Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in the US.
