Prince William and Prince Harry have suffered a fresh heartbreak after their uncle died at the age of 82.

Lord Robert Fellowes was married to Princess Diana's sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, for 46 years.

Lord Fellowes died of undisclosed causes on July 29.

The British courtier was the late monarch's most important adviser during the divorces of three of her children and the late Princess of Wales's death in 1997.

In 1978, Lord Fellowes married Lady Jane Spencer, the elder sister of Diana, who was a bridesmaid at their wedding.

He shared a close relationship with his nephews, Princes William and Harry.

The late aristocrat even attended the Prince and Princess of Wales's wedding at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

This was followed by Lord Fellowes' attendance at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding at St George's Chapel in 2018.

Lord Fellowes left his position as private secretary in February 1999 to return to private banking, his retirement having been announced in 1998 when his successor Robin Janvrin was named.

He was created a life peer on July 12, 1999, taking the title Baron Fellowes of Shotesham in the County of Norfolk in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

He sat as a crossbench peer until his retirement in 2022.

Despite leaving his role as private secretary, Lord Fellowes remained technically a member of the Royal Household.

He remained an Extra Equerry to Queen Elizabeth II until her death in 2022.

Lord and Lady Fellowes had three children together, Laura Jane, 44, Alexander Robert, 41, and Eleanor Ruth, 38.
