The Prince of Wales has opened up about his support for Aston Villa

This week Prince William's passion and devotion for Aston Villa Football Club has been hard to miss.

The Prince of Wales stopped off at the Birmingham-based team's training ground on Tuesday, whilst on the way to a royal engagement, to meet with the players before their crunch Champions League last-16 second leg match against Belgian side Club Brugge.

Prince William then issued a public message of support for Villa on his Instagram account the next day, along with sharing pictures of him mingling with the players.

Just a few hours later, Prince William was seen erupting in celebration as Aston Villa comfortably defeated Club Brugge 3-0 on Wednesday evening to win the tie 6-1 on aggregate.

The Prince of Wales said to a group of journalists as he left the stadium in Birmingham, "See you in Paris" confirming his intention to travel to France to watch Aston Villa in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final match against Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

Earlier this season, the prince was pictured in Monaco watching Aston Villa in the league phase of the European competition.

William has since followed up his public appearances that centred around Aston Villa with an in-depth interview about his support for the club.

The royal discussed how he ended up supporting Aston Villa despite having no obvious connection to the city of Birmingham.

William also heaped praise on current Aston Villa manager Unai Emery highlighting the Spaniard's intricate tactical tweaks and formations as definitive factors in the team's recent success.

The Prince of Wales also discussed watching football matches with his children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis and revealed they each have an Aston Villa shirt, among other football kits.

William revealed he would prefer it if his children all individually decided which football team to support rather than following Villa due to his connection with the club.

Prince George, 11, did attend an Aston Villa game alongside his father earlier this season and will surely be making his final decision on which team to support soon.

During the interview, William joked that he moves his children around the room when watching Aston Villa on TV in a bid to change the team's luck if they are losing.

The future king also shared that he posts anonymously in Aston Villa fan forums and pays for a membership to Aston Villa TV.

These admissions will bond William not just with Aston Villa fans but also with all football supporters throughout the UK who will have experienced the same range of emotions following their clubs.

It is refreshing to see the Prince of Wales and one of the most senior working members of the Royal Family be so open about a passion shared by hundreds of millions of people around the world.
