Prince William faces a major dilemma as Aston Villa's Champions League clash falls on the same day as Princess Kate's younger brother's birthday.

James Middleton will celebrate his 38th birthday on Tuesday.

Princess Kate has continued a gradual and considered return to public duties and is currently enjoying the Easter break with Prince William and their three children.

The milestone occasion is James's second birthday since becoming a father to his son, Inigo, whom he shares with his wife, Alizée.

Prince William, 42, is expected to be among the 40,000 fans at Villa Park for the second leg of the European quarter-final, although the royal has not confirmed his attendance.

The Prince of Wales and Prince George travelled to Paris to watch the game between the Midlands side and Paris Saint-Germain.

William's beloved Aston Villa lost the game 3-1 despite Morgan Rogers scoring the opening goal 35 minutes into the clash.

Following the match, the prince encouraged Aston Villa fans that the fixture is "not over yet" in a social media post.

Princess Kate, who is not expected to attend the game, will be keen to mark her brother's birthday.

The Princess of Wales and James have a close bond.

He previously revealed that alongside their "matriarch," Carole Middleton, his two elder sisters, Catherine and Pippa, were like "mothering figures" to him.

James said: "We've been brought up knowing that you can't take family for granted."

He explained: "You don't get to choose them, as you can choose your friends.

"But I don't think you can give up on your family like you can sometimes with friends."

James Middleton's residence is in Berkshire, England, specifically in the village of Bucklebury.

The home is under an hour drive from the Wales residency of Adelaide Cottage.
