Prince William roared in delight as Aston Villa won tonight's historic match.

Aston Villa beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Champion's League, playing at Villa Park in Birmingham.

The Prince of Wales, who is also President of the Football Association, was photographed celebrating after Aston Villa's Jhon Duran scored their only goal, which also happened to be the winning goal.

Prince William, a lifelong Villa supporter, travelled to Birmingham for the historic match.

Duran scored in the 79th minute, having been brought onto the pitch nine minutes earlier as a substitute.

This continued his impressive streak of scoring as a substitute for Villa this season.

Tonight's goal marked Duran's sixth score of the season.

The match was historic for Villa fans as it was the first time the team played in the Champion's League at home since 1982.

In 1982, Villa beat Bayern Munich to lift the European Cup.

As a school boy, William decided to support Aston Villa, a club that, at the time, were fighting for a place in the European Cup.

Decades later, William finally watched Villa play in Europe's elite club competition.

The Prince of Wales visited Villa Park on Wednesday evening as Unai Emery's side returned to the biggest stage after their 3-0 success over Young Boys in Switzerland two weeks ago.

William, who was alongside David Beckham at The London Air Ambulance Charity earlier this week, presented the likes of Ally McCoist and Karen Carney with OBEs at Windsor Castle on Wednesday before making the trip up to the Midlands for Villa's clash against Bayern.

The prince's eldest son, Prince George, is also an Aston Villa fan.

The father and son duo are regularly spotted at Villa Park to support their team.
