The Prince of Wales surprised fans when he showed up at Villa Park on Thursday
Prince William has been given an endearing new nickname by his favourite football team, Aston Villa, one of their players has revealed.
The Prince of Wales attended an Aston Villa match on Thursday at Villa Park and visited the team in their dressing room afterwards to congratulate their win against Zrinjski Mostar.
William gave a pep talk to Unai Emery’s squad before the club’s Europa Conference group game on Thursday, according to reports.
The 41-year-old could be seen celebrating after John McGinn scored Villa's winning goal against the Bosnian team.
The future King watched the game in the Trinity Road stand alongside Tyrone Mings.
Asked afterwards how he enjoyed the game, he said: "Very happy - 1-0 is good."
Team player Matty Cash commented: "Prince William loves it here. He had a few words with us before kick-off - and afterwards.
"He told us that normally when he’s at home, he’s shouting and screaming at the television.

"Here, he’s a bit calmer. I’m sure at the end, he was going crazy like everyone.
"To be fair, we hear from him quite a bit because he comes to training.
"He’s just a really good guy. He speaks to us like normal guys and we treat him that way when he comes."
The Villa right back gave the heir to the throne a new nickname, branding William "one of the lads" after his time in the dressing room.
Cash continued: "He knows all our names - our nicknames - everything. He is a proper supporter who just likes to be out and around the lads. He’s just a massive Villa fan."
