The special footage offered a glimpse into the making of the portrait

Kensington Palace has delighted royal fans by sharing a behind-the-scenes video of Prince Louis' seventh birthday photoshoot on its social media accounts.

The special footage offered a glimpse into the making of the young prince's official birthday portrait, which was released earlier today.

In the video, Louis could be heard asking: "I can jump down from here?" as the seven-year-old liaised with the photographer, Josh Shinner.

The endearing footage was set to instrumental music as Louis jumped around in the beautiful woodlands.

In the official portrait, Prince Louis could be seen showing off his gap-toothed grin whilst sitting on a piece of wood.

The video, filmed by Kensington Palace's social media team, features only the birthday boy himself.

The release comes as royal watchers celebrate the youngest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales turning seven.

Neither the Prince nor the Princess of Wales made a physical appearance in the behind-the-scenes footage. The video focused solely on Prince Louis as he posed for his birthday portrait.

"Wishing Prince Louis a very Happy 7th Birthday!" his parents wrote in the Instagram caption accompanying the original portrait.

Many social media users commented on how "grown up" Louis looked in the new image, with several referring to him as a "big boy".

The birthday portrait marked another milestone for the young royal, who has become known for his playful personality during public appearances.

Unlike previous years when Princess Kate, 43, has often been behind the camera for her children's annual pictures, this year's shot was taken by photographer Josh Shinner.

The outdoor setting of Louis sitting on a piece of wood bears similarity to a photo taken by his mother to mark his first birthday in 2019.

The Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed Louis in April 2018, their third child after Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, nine.

Prince Louis has become known for his playful antics in public appearances over the years.

He was spotted dancing at Trooping the Colour in 2024 and memorably yawned during King Charles III's Coronation the previous year.
