The duke reunited with his brother Prince William during his secret visit

Prince Harry’s surprise appearance at his uncle’s funeral could have presented the duke with a route back into the Royal Family - but "leaks" have scuppered those hopes, a royal expert has told GB News.

It was revealed last week that the duke reunited with his brother Prince William during his secret visit - but they are said to have kept their distance.

Speaking on GB News, Maureen Callahan questioned why details have emerged from the event.

“There are these conflicting reports coming out now in the wake of that memorial that Harry is said to be looking at a way back into the Royal Family”, she said.

“What is very interesting about the memorial and the joint attendance of William and Harry is that it seemed it could be a tiny step on the road to reconciliation, had no leaks emerged.

“Guess what, leaks emerged. The leaks say that everybody was ‘so pleased’ to see Harry and that he was on ‘remarkably good form’.

“They imply he actually spoke at the memorial or had some form of significance. It seems as though that was not the case.

“He simply sat in the back and tried not to make a fuss, so gold star.”

The memorial service took place close to the royal Sandringham Estate.

A church warden told the BBC of the surprise showing: “It was wonderful that both princes were able to attend their uncle’s memorial service yesterday at St Mary’s Church.

"The service was a lovely family occasion celebrating the life of such a special man.

"Many friends were also present and also many members of the St Mary’s Church family."

The Sun claimed the brothers were not seen to speak to each other amid their ongoing rift.

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have taken shots at the Royal Family from afar through a series of books, interviews and documentaries.

The Duke of Sussex previously visited the UK to see his father after learning of his cancer diagnosis in February.

He then flocked across the pond once more in May for a celebratory Invictus Games service which marked its 10th anniversary.

Harry founded the international sport event for wounded and ill members of the armed forces and veterans.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been approached for comment.
