Prince Harry made a poignant appearance in New York City yesterday, supporting The HALO Trust, a charity closely associated with his late mother, Princess Diana.

The humanitarian organisation, renowned for its work in clearing landmines and war debris across more than 30 countries, gained international recognition when Princess Diana famously walked through an active minefield in Angola in 1997.

Prince Harry, visibly moved by the mention of his mother's legacy, addressed the event, stating: "As you know, The HALO Trust work in Angola meant a great deal to my mother.

"Carrying on her legacy is a responsibility that I take incredibly seriously."

The Duke of Sussex's commitment to The HALO Trust extends beyond his recent appearance.

In 2019, he memorably retraced Princess Diana's footsteps in Angola, visiting the former minefield that had transformed into a thriving community.

The site, now home to schools and businesses, is marked by The Diana Tree where the princess was famously photographed.

Prince Harry reflected on the changes in his life since his 2019 visit to Angola.

"Much has changed in my life and the world since 2019 when I first visited," he remarked. "In those five years, I've become a father for the second time."

The Duke emphasised the importance of continuing efforts to clear landmines, stating: "While you don't need children to have a stake in the future of our planet, I do know that my mother would have been horrified that anyone's children or grandchildren would live in a world still infested with mines."

The Duke has consistently used his platform to support the Trust's mission.

In March 2022, Prince Harry video chatted with The HALO Trust team working in Ukraine amidst the Russian invasion, demonstrating his ongoing dedication to the cause.

US Senator Chris Coons of Delaware joined Prince Harry on stage at the New York event, offering high praise for the Duke's dedication to his mother's legacy.

After Harry's speech, Senator Coons addressed him directly, saying, "Prince Harry, thank you for your leadership, for your heart, for your vision, for sustaining the legacy of your mother and for inspiring a whole new generation around the world to be engaged in this critical work against the scourge of land mines."
