Prince Harry and Prince William 'can be hot and cold with their father' according to a royal author

Prince Harry and Prince William's behaviour was labelled an "absolute nightmare" in the build-up to a pivotal Royal Family moment.

King Charles has selected a photo of Meghan Markle as part of the official Buckingham Palace souvenir programme to accompany the Coronation.

The move has been seen as an olive branch to Prince Harry and Meghan despite the fact the Duchess of Sussex has chosen not to attend the landmark event.

The family portrait was taken at the gardens at Clarence House by royal photographer Chris Jackson to mark Charles's 70th birthday in 2018.

However, according to a royal source Prince Harry and Prince William made the planning of the photo session very difficult.

In the biography Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand said that Harry and William "can be hot and cold with their father".

They wrote: "The boys can be hot and cold with their father' disclosed a source, who gave the example of planning the photo session for Charles' 70th birthday, which they called 'an absolute nightmare'.

"'Neither William nor Harry made much of an effort to make themselves available', the source said."

King Charles, Camilla, Prince William, Kate, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were all in attendance at the photo shoot in 2018.

The olive branch to the Sussexes comes as Meghan Markle is determined for Archie and Lilibet to have a close relationship with King Charles, according to a source.

Last week it was announced that Prince Harry will attend King Charles's Coronation on his own while the rest of his family remains in California.

However, Meghan Markle reportedly does not want any more rifts with the Royal Family.

Instead, the Duchess of Sussex wants her children to be close to their grandfather due to her being estranged from her own father, Thomas Markle.

According to a source, Meghan wants Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to know King Charles as they will not have a relationship with her father.

The source told Page Six: "Meghan doesn’t want any more rifts. She wants her children to know their grandfather, Charles, particularly when they are not going to know their other grandfather.

"She does hope they will meet and hopes her decision will be seen as an unselfish one, as it was best to keep the attention on His Majesty."
