According to the Mail, Prince Harry now faces having to pay the publication's £250,000 legal fees along with his own lawyers.

It is estimated this will leave the duke with a total bill of more than £750,000, although it is understood the final cost of the case has yet to be determined.

A spokesperson for The Duke of Sussex has told GB News Prince Harry's priority is the "safety of his family" rather than a court case that gives "a continued platform to the Mail's false claims all those years ago".

Harry sued the Mail on Sunday for libel over an article that claimed his PR aides had tried to 'spin' a dispute with the Home Office.

The dispute related to the Home Office's decision to downgrade his tax-funded police protection.

Prince Harry claimed this unfairly accused him of trying to confuse the public.

Both the Duke of Sussex and Mail on Sunday faced a deadline today to disclose relevant documents.

However, Harry's lawyers informed the the publication it had filed a notice with the court stating: "The Duke of Sussex discontinues all of this claim."

It comes as Prince Harry is set to be honoured tonight at the 21st annual Living Legend of Aviation Awards.
