The Duke of Sussex admitted to taking drugs in his 2023 memoir Spare

Prince Harry is set to avoid an "embarrassing" feud after an "extremely foolish" admission about his past, according to a royal commentator.

The Duke of Sussex's US visa documents have been at the centre of a long-standing court battle since he admitted taking illegal drugs, including cocaine, marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms, in the UK and America in his memoir Spare.

Applicants for an American Visa must disclose whether they have ever taken drugs and can be banned from entering the country if they have.

Other public figures have run into issues entering the US over their reported drug use.

The Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based think tank, believe Harry's visa application could have been treated differently.

The upcoming US election has also caused concern with the Duke of Sussex, as he and Republican candidate Donald Trump are known to dislike each other.

Royal commentator, Richard Fitzwilliams, believes despite his "extremely foolish" admission, the duke will not have further US isa headaches, even if Trump is elected.

He said: "Harry was extremely foolish to discuss his drug taking in Spare both in interviews and in the memoir, available in paperback."

Fitzwilliams continued: "However, the Sussexes have kept a relatively low profile during the election, urging Americans to vote but not being explicit as to whom for.

"It is most unlikely that Trump would risk an embarrassing episode involving the Royal Family by expelling Harry if it was discovered that he had not revealed his drug taking on his visa application.

"We know that Trump and the Sussexes detest each other but... it is safe to assume the Sussexes would be left in peace."

Referring to Prince Harry's visa application, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said: "If he lied, they'll have to take appropriate action."

When questioned about whether the royal would be able to stay in America, Trump said, "Oh, I don't know. You'll have to tell me. You just have to tell me."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to California after announcing they would be stepping back from official royal duties in January 2020.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently bought a house in Portugal but have kept their California property.

Richard Fitzwilliams believes the European home is not a permanent replacement for their Montecito mansion and that the couple plans to stay in California long-term.
