President Trump has vowed he will not deport the Duke of Sussex from the US

Donald Trump does not want a battle with the Royal Family over Prince Harry's visa records due to his ties to the monarchy, according to a royal commentator.

The Duke of Sussex's visa status came under scrutiny following drug admissions in his memoir 'Spare'.

A conservative think tank, The Heritage Foundation, had taken legal action against the Department of Homeland Security in Washington DC over the matter.

The legal action centred on Harry's admissions about taking cocaine as a teenager and experimenting with cannabis and magic mushrooms.

Last month, Donald Trump promise he would not deport Prince Harry regardless of what the documents revealed.

The US President stated: "I don't want to do that, I'll leave him alone."

Trump also took aim at Harry's wife Meghan Markle in his remarks, stating: "He's got enough problems with his wife. She's terrible."

The US President will undertake an unprecedented second State Visit to the UK after accepting an invitation from King Charles in February.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams highlighted Trump's fondness of the monarchy as a reason for not pursuing the visa battle.

Fitzwilliams told GB News: "Donald Trump does not want a battle with a member of the Royal Family.

"It would be appealed through the courts and it would have a huge amount of publicity.

"He values his trips in 2018 and 2019. He values his links with the Royal Family."

"Harry is still fifth in line to the throne and is still a member of the Royal Family, that is why Trump does not want that [battle]," Fitzwilliams added.

The US President will become the first elected political leader in modern times to be hosted for two State Visits by a British monarch.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer delivered the invitation in the form of a letter from King Charles during a White House press conference.

Trump previously enjoyed a three-day State Visit with Queen Elizabeth II in 2019.
