The Duke of Sussex's awkward moments at the ceremony went viral

Prince Harry was inadvertently humiliated at King Charles and Queen Camilla's Coronation following a last-minute change.

The Duke of Sussex attended the landmark ceremony on his own in May 2023 after his wife, Meghan Markle, declined an invitation.

Prince Harry was relegated to the third row of seats at Westminster Abbey.

He was seated in the row alongside non-working royals including Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and Prince Andrew.

The duke's aunt Princess Anne sat directly in front of him and his view of the ceremony appeared to be blocked by a large red feather on top of her hat.

Pictures of Harry struggling to peer past the plume of the Blues and Royals went viral across social media and made global headlines.

A new royal book has now revealed that Harry's view was not blocked deliberately.

Robert Hardman's new book Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, claims Anne only sat in front of Harry following a last-minute swap of seats.

Hardman writes: "At the Coronation itself, Prince Harry was seated in the third row of the royal section, immediately behind Princess Anne, who was wearing a striking red-plumed bicorn hat that remained on her head throughout.

"Social media snipers instantly concluded that Harry had been deliberately placed behind his aunt’s tall hat to obscure his view.

"This is nonsense. Not only do the Lord Chamberlain’s Office not think like that, but the Princess Royal had only switched to that seat after her request for a speedy exit."

Princess Anne said regarding the hat she wore at the Coronation: "I said: 'Are you sure you want me to keep the hat on? Because it’s quite a decent-sized hat.'

"And the answer was yes. There you go. Not my choice."

The Duke of Sussex flew back to the US following the conclusion of the Coronation ceremony to see his son Prince Archie.

The young royal turned four on May 6 2023, the same day as the Coronation.
