Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited a school in Brooklyn just weeks after they suffered a backlash regarding a reported implementation of a gagging order.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited The Marcy Lab School in New York on Tuesday.

The school has been touted as an alternative college which aims to prepare young adults of colour for rewarding, wealth-generating careers in the tech sector.

The Duchess of Sussex told pupils upon her arrival: "We're happy to be back in New York City."

Prince Harry shared some advice with the students during the engagement to mark World Mental Health Day.

He said: "Everyone's got their own story, a reason for being here, your life is still going to be filled with complications and challenges.

"And if one of you starts to go quiet, doesn't show up, you need to find out why."

Meghan Markle chose to wear a letterman jacket that was gifted to her during a solo visit to Robert Clack School in Essex, England during her March 2020 visit.

The couple's engagement in Brooklyn comes just weeks after it emerged that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attempted to gag teachers and pupils from speaking negatively about an appearance they undertook in September 2021.

The royal couple visited a school in Harlem, New York, where Meghan read her book The Beach to a class of seven-year-olds.

Emails detailing exchanges between Meghan's aides and the New York City Department of Education were released two years later following a Freedom of Information request.

The emails showed negotiations regarding the language that would be used in the press release announcing the Duchess of Sussex's visit to the school.
