The Sussexes recently severed ties with Spotify
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are looking at ways to “recast themselves” in a bid to align more with the late Princess Diana, according to a royal biographer.
Possible moves could include the Sussexes changing their surname to Spencer as the couple increasingly distance themselves from the Royal Family.
Speaking on GB News, author of Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, Tom Bower, told Dan Wootton that the Duchess is “building up to something big”, something that is evidenced by her “silence”.
He said: “Meghan’s silence is really odd. She’s building up to something big.
“There’s no doubt that there has been talk of Dior in recent weeks in Los Angeles.
“What is really interesting in the rebranding of the Sussexes that I’ve heard that Meghan’s real objective in her life is to be Diana, that has always been her passion.
“That has also been Harry’s passion. Meghan has gone to the extent of suggesting to drop the surname Windsor and take the surname Spencer, so she would be Meghan Spencer.
“This is not something that has just come up in their minds, they’re actively trying to recast themselves as Harry and Meghan Spencer.”
It comes after Harry and Meghan’s lucrative podcast deal with Spotify was ended by mutual agreement.
Their production company Archewell Audio made just one podcast series for the streaming giant for the streaming giant in late 2020 which was said to be worth around 25 million US dollars (£19.5 million).
The joint statement from Archewell and Spotify said: “Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together.”
An Archewell Productions spokeswoman reportedly told the Wall Street Journal: “Meghan is continuing to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform.”
Questions have been raised about the Duke and Duchess’ incomes following the move to sever ties with Spotify as their lifestyle requires the generation of a large income.
The couple stepped down as working royals in 2020 and moved to California seeking personal and financial freedom.
A key pillar of their move was the deal with Spotify, which along with a more substantial tie-up with Netflix believed to be worth more than £100 million, appeared to vindicate their decision.
Bower says a further ambition of the couple is to change their surname, a move which was been “discussed with others”.
He told GB News: “It is all about the break-off. They’ve given up the Sussex title because you’ve got the new Diana incarnation.
“It all makes sense if you look at the extraordinary photos of Meghan this week. Very thin, she is getting ready for the Dior modelling.
“Image was important, but it’s all now sabotaged, everything is broken up, and that is a big blow.”
