The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's relationship with senior members of the monarchy has deteriorated over the last few years

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are "desperately" scrambling for a Royal Family olive branch, according to a source.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020 and moved to the US via a short stay in Canada.

The couple have lived in Montecito, California for the past four years, but the upcoming US election has raised concerns for the Sussexes.

Donald Trump will go head to head with Kamala Harris in the election that will take place in November this year.

Both Donald Trump and his son Eric Trump have publicly criticised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Prince Harry's US visa is at the centre of a court case being pursued by the Heritage Foundation against the Department of Homeland Security who want the royal's documents released to the public to see whether he admitted to taking drugs on the forms.

The Duke of Sussex wrote in his autobiography that he had used cocaine, magic mushrooms and cannabis.

Royal sources have claimed that Harry and Meghan are desperate to heal their rift with the Royal Family as the possibility of Donald Trump becoming President of the US for a second time looms.

A source told the Mail: "It seems quite clear that they are desperate to start healing the rift."

The Duke of Sussex's relationship with senior members of the monarchy has deteriorated over the last few years.

In 2023 following the publication of the Duke of Sussex's autobiography Spare, King Charles asked the couple to vacate the royal residence.

Spare contained multiple attacks on senior members of the Royal Family including Queen Camilla, Prince William and the Princess of Wales.

The Sussexes officially vacated the royal residence in July 2023 and have not found a UK base since leaving Frogmore.

Prince Harry has made multiple trips to London since being evicted from Frogmore Cottage but has stayed in hotel rooms rather than at a Royal Family residence.

The Duchess of Sussex has not visited the UK since September 2022 and her absence looks set to continue.

In a TV interview last month, Harry told ITV he did not feel comfortable bringing Meghan Markle with him to the UK due to security reasons.
