The Duchess of Sussex flew back to California on Tuesday

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ended their professional separation at the Invictus Games as they put on a unified display during the first half of the sporting competition.

The couple's joint appearances in Vancouver and Whistler were their first since an international tour of Colombia in August.

The Sussexes had been trialling a separation of their professional lives over the last six months in a bid to enhance their individual brands after failing to secure true power couple status in the US.

Harry and Meghan carried out solo engagements both in America and in Prince Harry's case also in the UK and Africa during the final months of 2024.

The Duchess of Sussex was always expected to be by Prince Harry's side in Canada for the Invictus Games.

It is a country Meghan used to live in during her time portraying Rachel Zane in the legal soap opera Suits which was filmed in Toronto.

Additionally, continuing their professional separation across the Invictus Games would have created speculation around the couple due to Meghan's previous attendance at all other Invictus Games since she married the prince.

Since Meghan opted to leave Canada on Tuesday after five days of joint appearances with Harry, the Duke of Sussex looks to have lost a bit of momentum.

Earlier this week, Harry spoke of how much he enjoyed having Meghan by his side during the Invictus Games but just days later she was back in the US.

Sources close to the Sussexes have said Meghan's early departure was planned in order for her to be with their young children Prince Archie, 5 and Princess Lilibet, 3.

They highlighted the duchess opting to leave the 2023 Invictus Games in Germany at the halfway point for the same reason as evidence of the couple's carefully coordinated strategy to maximise their time together before Meghan returned to the US.

However, Prince Harry's output at the Games seems to have slowed down since his wife headed back to California on Tuesday evening.

The Duke of Sussex intended to take Wednesday off to recharge but did make a short surprise appearance to the delight of Invictus Games fans.

On Thursday, Harry attended one event, where he was seen supporting the UK and US in the wheelchair rugby medal matches.

Meghan's support of the Invictus Games online also appears to have trickled away.

The Duchess of Sussex posted many short clips from their time at the sporting competition on Instagram as 'stories' as well as a promotion post for the Games on her account, which has 1.7 million followers, during the first five days of the event.

However, at the time of writing on Friday afternoon, the Duchess of Sussex has not posted any clips from the Invictus Games during the last 24 hours.

The couple received warm welcomes from athletes and locals in Vancouver and shared warm moments with both groups during their time in Canada.

The Invictus Games are still growing and there is room for further expansion despite Prince Harry admitting this week that he will be happy when the sporting competition is no longer needed.

Throughout the competition in Vancouver and Whistler, Prince Harry has spoken of his excitement at the Games returning to the UK in 2027.

Meghan Markle has not visited the UK since September 2022 despite Prince Harry making multiple trips to London in 2023 and 2024.

Whether Prince Harry is joined in Birmingham by his wife may hinge on the outcome of the Duke of Sussex's upcoming appeal against a High Court ruling that upheld the Home Office's decision to reduce his security protection in the UK following his departure from royal duties in 2020.

The appeal will be heard later this year.
