Royal fans have suggested the image is a subtle nod to a famous picture of Diana

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared to have made a subtle tribute to the late Princess Diana in their newly released 2024 Christmas card.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released their annual digital holiday card, which features a never-before-seen photograph of the royal's two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

The image shows the back of the children’s heads as they ran into Prince Harry’s and Meghan’s open arms.

The pair remain vigilant in their ongoing intentions to keep privacy for their children.

Royal fans have suggested the image is a subtle nod to a famous picture of Diana greeting Prince William and Harry on the deck of the yacht Britannia in Toronto during an official visit to Canada in 1991.

The Sussexes echoed Diana, who was dressed in an orange and white Moschino suit, as she prepared to hug her two young sons.

Prince Harry has previously expressed his desire to continue his mother's legacy.

During the Halo Trust's anti-landmine event in New York in September, the prince said that “carrying on Diana's legacy is something he takes very seriously.”

The surprise season's greetings card from Harry and Meghan displayed five other photos, highlighting charitable work the royals underwent in 2024, including pictures from their visits to Colombia and Nigeria.

The card, from Prince Harry and Meghan, was also sent on behalf of Archewell Productions and the Archewell Foundation much like previous years.

The message on the front of the card read: "We wish you a very Happy Holiday Season and a joyful new year."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their two children are set to spend the festive period at their Californian residency.

They were reportedly not invited by King Charles, 76, to the Royal Family's traditional annual gathering at Sandringham Estate.

The pair, who stepped down from working royal duties in January 2020, established the Archewell Foundation as a platform for their philanthropic work.

They have included their charity in the release of their Christmas card for the last three years.

Archewell Productions, also included in the card, is the Sussexes Netflix organisation, which recently released its latest five-part docu-series project, Polo.
