They said: “In response to UK media headlines, there has been no contact regarding an invitation to His Majesty’s upcoming birthday.

“It is disappointing the Sunday Times has misreported this story."

A source close to the situation additionally said the Palace had “never reached out” to Harry and Meghan.

Royal commentator Rebecca English told the podcast Palace Confidential that the statement was the Sussexes' starting a new "war of words" with the Windsors.

The King and the wider Royal Family have not publicly responded to the spokesperson's statement.

"This is because they don't want to get into another war of words with the Sussexes."

She explained: "But it just seemed one again that was a bit self-generated that just really didn't need to be."
