South Korea is set to submit an official bid to host the 2029 Invictus Games, as the opening ceremony of the international sporting event for injured service members takes place in Vancouver this weekend.

Vice Veterans Affairs Minister Lee Hee-wan will present the formal bid on Sunday whilst leading a government delegation at the Invictus Games 2025, according to reports in The Korea Herald.

The Games, founded by Prince Harry in London, launched in 2014.

The 2025 Games will feature 550 athletes from 23 countries, with South Korea sending 11 competitors to the multinational sporting event.

During his visit to Vancouver, Lee plans to meet with Korean War veterans and descendants of Korean independence activists.

The South Korean minister will also hold discussions with Canadian Veterans Minister Darren Fisher to seek support for the country's bid to host the 2029 Games.

The next Invictus Games will take place in Birmingham, England in 2027.

Birmingham was picked ahead of Washington DC in the United States as the host for the 2027 edition of the sporting event.

The host nation has not yet been chosen for the 2029 games.

The Invictus Games has never been hosted in Asia which would make South Korea hosting the competition in four years extra special.

Meghan and Harry may opt to bring Archie and Lilibet to the sporting competition in the UK.
