Prince Harry has been urged to make a “public statement on a huge mistake” if he wants to end his ongoing feud with William and Kate.
The relationship between the brothers has been frosty in recent years, thanks in part to a series of bombshell claims that Harry made in his memoir Spare, which was released in January 2023.
Harry wrote that his brother was critical of his wife, whom he relocated to the United States with in 2020, and that William allegedly called her “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”.
The Duke of Sussex also discussed various points of contention between his wife and Kate. One specific disagreement revolved around Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress, which left Meghan reportedly “sobbing on the floor”.
Aside from Harry’s scathing memoir, the couple’s Netflix series released in 2022, and their landmark interview with Oprah in 2021, had previously added fuel to the fire.
Whilst chances of a reconciliation looking slim, King Charles’ former butler believes he knows of a way that could mend the fractured relationship and give Harry his former life back.
Speaking to the New York Post, Grant Harold said: “The only way I see this happening is a public statement from Harry, where you come out and say that you were in a bad space and that [Spare] was a mistake.
In the memoir, Harry also claimed that William attacked him after a disagreement over the Duke’s wife Meghan. He wrote: “He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor.
ROYAL LATEST:
Harry and Meghan were interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in 2021
Harpo ProductionsBoth Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace have declined to comment on the allegations.
Discussing whether Harry would declare that his memoir was a mistake, Harold said: “I don’t think that’s going to happen. Some bad things were said, and some families never patch things up, and that’s how it is forevermore.
He added that Harry “will regret” the things he wrote in his book.
“Harry has got a big heart, and a part of him probably wishes things would be different,” Harrold concluded.
Speaking to GB News last week, former royal reporter Michael Cole claimed the brothers sweeping their differences under the rug seems unlikely.
He said: “William has done his duty, in great contrast to Prince Harry. Now, I don't think there's any chance at all of there being a reconciliation with the brothers now or in the foreseeable future.
“It goes back to Oprah Winfrey interview, then the book Spare, and all the things that were said in the Netflix six part series.
“There is too much bad blood. William is not going to forgive that, principally because he [Harry], of course, personally attacked his wife, Kate.
“Even when the announcement of her cancer was made. Their merely mouthed response to it didn't show any great concern for her.
“William looks at them and he would say what most people would say. All of this is completely unnecessary.
“Prince Harry has had a wonderful, privileged life. He owes everything to being a member of the Royal Family.”
