The first Royal Family baby of 2024 has been born, as Prince Felix and Princess Claire of Luxembourg welcomed their third child.
The baby boy is named Balthazar Felix Karl, and he was born just a week into the new year on Sunday, January 7.
The name Balthazar, which has Greek origins, has a royal meaning: "God protects the King".
Balthazar was also one of the biblical three Kings who visited the infant Jesus, a feast day which is celebrated in Christianity on January 6.

Therefore, the name is fitting given the new prince arrived the day after the feast day.
In an announcement posted on Monday, the royal court said: "It is with great joy that we announce the birth of our son.
"The prince was born on January 7, 2024, at the Maternité Grande-Duchesse Charlotte.
"The newborn Prince will be named Balthazar Felix Karl.
"He weighs 3,220kg and measures 50cm."
They continued: "Prince Balthazar and Princess Claire are in perfect health."
The message was signed by "Felix and Claire" as well as their two older children, Princess Amalia, nine, and Prince Liam, seven.
Prince Balthazar is the seventh grandchild of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.

With the new announcement, the royal court announced: "The Grand Duke, the Grand Duchess as well as the members of the two families are united in great happiness."
Prince Felix is the second eldest son of Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg and fourth in line to the throne.
