Prince Edward and the Duchess of Edinburgh have confirmed a major royal outing as King Charles continues to battle cancer.

Edward and Sophie are set to attend a parade to commemorate the 120th anniversary of The Entente Cordiale next week, on behalf of the King.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will be accompanied by the UK Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Patrick Sanders, French Chief of the Army Staff, General Pierre Schill and the French Ambassador to the UK, Her Excellency Hélène Duchêne.

This comes as the monarch, 75, has temporarily paused public-facing royal duties as he continues to receive cancer treatment.

King Charles is still performing duties behind the scenes, however, he will avoid public engagements as much as possible.

The 75-year-old made an exception this past Easter Sunday when he performed a surprise royal walkabout with the public in Windsor.

Princess Kate, 42, is another senior member of the Royal Family who has temporarily stepped back from duties because she is also battling cancer.

Prince Edward, 60, and his wife Sophie, 59, are two members of the Royal Family who have stepped up to the plate to perform engagements while the monarch and the Princess of Wales receive cancer treatment.

On April 8, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will represent King Charles at a parade to commemorate the 120th anniversary of The Entente Cordiale.

The Entente Cordiale was a diplomatic agreement, signed on April 8, 1904, between Britain and France, laying the groundwork for the two nations' cooperation during World War One.

The event on the Forecourt of Buckingham Palace will mark the first time a non-Commonwealth country, France, has taken part in the Changing of the Guard Ceremony.

32 members of the Gendarmerie’s Garde Républicaine and 40 Guardsmen from the Scots Guards will be seen together on the Forecourt of Buckingham Palace.

Prince Edward and Sophie, alongside the French Ambassador, will inspect the French and British troops.

The unprecedented appearance by French personnel in The King’s Guard Change ceremony forms part of a longer-term programme of joint UK-French activity that celebrates the two nations’ historic military and diplomatic ties in 2024.

In parallel to events in London, the Elysée Palace in Paris will host British personnel in a similar guard ceremony that has been arranged specially to mark the Entente Cordiale anniversary.
