Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson made a surprising Easter appearance on Sunday.

The Duke and Duchess of York joined King Charles and the Queen for the Easter service at St. George's Chapel in Windsor.

Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh also followed the King in what was the monarch's first official public engagement since his cancer diagnosis.

The Duke of York no longer carries out royal duties as he is not a working royal, however as the King's brother he is allowed to attend private family events.

The duke caused a stir last month after he was seated in the front row of the late King Constantine's memorial service.

The Duke of York stepped down from his royal duties in 2019 following his Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis.

In the interview, the prince discussed his friendship with the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

Despite divorcing in 1996, the duke continues to cohabitate with Sarah Ferguson at the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park.

Prince Andrew attended the event amid a slimmed-down monarchy as the Prince and the Princess of Wales stepped back.

Princess Kate is not undertaking public duties as she continues preventative chemotherapy.

Royal expert Michael Cole said: "In the absence of Prince William, his brother Prince Harry, and their children, Andrew has precedence as eighth in line to the throne, despite the dark clouds that gather over his head as a result of his ill-judged friendship with the late, unlamented serial child abuser Jeffrey Epstein."

Prince Andrew also joined the family for the annual Christmas Day walk to St Mary Magdalene Church at Sandringham.

Prince Andrew is bracing for backlash as a new Netflix drama about the duke is due to be released on April 5.

The movie Scoop will reenact the duke's career-ending interview between Emily Maitlis and the Duke of York that occurred in 2019.

During the trailer for the film, actress Billie Piper, who plays Newsnight producer Sam McAlister, tells Rufus Sewell, who plays Prince Andrew, that he is often called "Randy Andy."

The film will reenact the “high stakes negotiations with Buckingham Palace” that Maitlis and McAlister experienced trying to obtain the "royal scoop" with Prince Andrew.
