Prince Andrew was invited to Tuesday's memorial service by the Greek Royal Family amid his controversial front-row seat in St George's Chapel.

A memorial service was held at St George's Chapel in Windsor for the late King Constantine of Greece on Tuesday.

The Duke of York surprised fans when he led members of the Royal Family by foot into St George's Chapel beside his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.

However, Andrew, 64, was invited by the Greek Royal Family to the private service.

GB News's Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker said: "[Prince Andrew] wasn't just leading the march, he was also front row of the service, sat five seats away from Her Majesty The Queen, so he was very much front and centre in the spotlight.

"I understand that it was actually the Greek Royal Family that invited Prince Andrew, rather than the British Royal Family.

"Prince Andrew is also still a member of the private Windsor family and this was a private thanksgiving service for King Constantine of Greece.

"Because it wasn't an official event, as a non-working member of the Royal Family, Prince Andrew was entitled to attend.

"Clearly he is going to take any opportunity because we know Prince Andrew is a character to attend an event such as this."

According to Cameron, the Royal Family were likely aware that the Duke of York was attending.

He explained: "Clearly, the royal household would have known, there were lots of cameras there.

"In fact, there were lots of fixed points set up for the journalists to be there and see which members of the Royal Family were going to be there.

"Perhaps their hands were tied because it was a private family service, but would it have happened if the King and Prince William were there?

"I suspect it probably would have to be honest, because he is still a member of the private family, even if it was uncomfortable for them."

Prince Andrew was joined at the service by Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Princess Beatrice and Zara Tindall.

Prince William, 41, was due to give a reading at the service, but pulled out at the last minute, citing a "personal reason" as his excuse.
