Meghan Markle appeared to be "missing" from her close pal's final cover at Vogue, royal fans have claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex worked closely with Edward Enninful when she guest-edited an issue of British Vogue in 2019.

The outgoing editor-in-chief of British Vogue has just produced his final cover, which featured 40 "legendary" women, including Victoria Beckham, Oprah Winfrey and Serena Williams.

However, Meghan, 42, was notably absent from the front cover.

Royal fans took to social media to express their surprise at the editorial decision.

A royal watcher posted on X: "Meghan is missing from her pal editor Edward Enninful's final cover."

Another wrote in a reply to Omid Scobie, a biographer of the Sussexes, on X: "Was your bestie #MeghanMarkIe busy that day…?"

A social media user asked: "This is beyond my understanding, where’s Meghan?"

Someone else commented: "Now why did Meghan Markle deny us a Vogue cover because I know that guy called her?"

Similarly, a royal fan posted: "With how close Meghan implied she was to Edward Enninful I’m surprised she wasn’t included.

"Her bestie Serena and Oprah have been included and over 40 legendary women took part in his final edition shoot for Vogue."

It is unknown whether the Duchess of Sussex was contacted or not to appear on the magazine cover.

Meghan's "Forces for Change" issue in September 2019 put inspirational women including actress Jane Fonda and former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on the front cover.

When it was published, it was the fastest-selling issue in the magazine's history, selling out in less than 10 days.

The following year, Enninful spoke about the criticism Meghan received when she joined the Royal Family.

Describing the duchess as a "brave woman", he said: "Parts of it were probably racism, but it was more of an institution."

He continued to tell Sky News: "She walked into an institution and everyone expected her to know the rules. And I think sometimes it takes a minute to understand the rules."

Enniful has previously praised King Charles as a monarch who can "evolve with the times" and is an ambassador for The Prince's Trust.

Last year, the 51-year-old announced he would be stepping down from his role as editor-in-chief of British Vogue to take up a newly created position.
