Meghan Markle was defended by the victims' relatives from the Uvalde school shooting, as the Duchess of Sussex was filmed making a touching phone call.
In May 2022, a tragic mass shooting occurred in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 students and two teachers were killed.
Meghan, 42, was later spotted laying a bouquet of white roses at a memorial outside the Uvalde County Courthouse.
The duchess was criticised by some who inaccurately claimed she brought a media crew to Uvalde, however, this turned out to be false.
Meghan was defended by Uvalde victims' relatives online
GettyAt the time, a spokesperson for Meghan said that the duchess visited Uvalde in a personal capacity "as a mother," to support a community experiencing "unimaginable grief".
Brett Cross, the father of Uziyah "Uzi" Garcia who was killed in the shooting, spoke out in defence of the duchess on Friday.
He wrote on social media platform X: "She arrived without media and did tell them to leave that she wasn't there for them.
"She has also kept in contact with my wife."
Meghan was defended by relatives on social media who refuted inaccurate claims
ReutersMeghan additionally called to check in on Irma Garcia's sister, another victim's relative from the school shooting. Garcia was one of the teachers killed.
A video of the phone call was posted by Garcia's nephew, Johnny Martinez.
He wrote on X: "I've never posted this but it clearly needs to be seen, this is just a small part of the video of my mom on the phone with Meghan Markle checking up on the family on Father's Day."
In the video, Meghan can be heard asking Garcia's sister: "How are they doing?" referring to the children.

In subsequent tweets, Martinez said he has "multiple videos" of his mother on the phone with the duchess.
GB News has contacted the Duchess of Sussex's representatives at the Archewell Foundation for a comment.
In October 2022, the Archewell Foundation announced they had partnered with the non-profit organisation KABOOM! to develop a children's playground at DeLeon Park in Uvalde.
Archewell's executive director, James Holt, said in a statement: "It has been an honor to support the children and families in Uvalde design and build this amazing space where the community can come together.
"Our hope is that this special project can help the community heal, and be home to imagination, games and play for many years to come."
