The scene quickly sparked outrage on social media

Netflix viewers were "disgusted" over what they perceived as an unhygienic detail in Meghan Markle's new cookery show "With Love, Meghan".

The controversy erupted after the third episode showed what appeared to be raw chicken legs stored on a fridge shelf next to salad leaves.

The scene quickly sparked outrage on social media, with users condemning the Duchess of Sussex for apparent cross-contamination risks.

However, a closer inspection of the episode revealed that viewers may have jumped to conclusions.

The scene was first shared online by an X user who questioned: "Why has #MeghanMarkle [kept] raw chicken legs in the fridge next to the salad?"

The post quickly accumulated nearly 200 comments expressing disgust at the storage method.

One user wrote: "I believe Chef Gordon Ramsay would call that cross contamination."

Another dubbed the fridge "salmonella central" while someone else quipped: "Hello salmonella, my old friend."

"Yikes! Everything is contaminated by raw chicken! Who does that?!" another commenter added.

However, as the episode progressed, it was revealed that the chicken legs had actually been parboiled or partially cooked in water before being placed on the tray.

This crucial detail, missed by many viewers in their initial reactions, explains why the chicken was stored in this manner.

The episode featured celebrated Korean-American chef Roy Choi, known for his gourmet Korean-Mexican taco truck, Kogi.

Meghan and Choi were preparing Korean fried chicken whilst bonding over a shared love of "karaoke and dancing" in Koreatown.

The backlash on social media was swift and harsh, with viewers quick to criticise what they believed was a food safety hazard.

"Why aren't they covered? They probably stink up the whole fridge," one user commented.

Another said it was "disgusting" that the meat was "just sitting on the glass shelf".

"Oh damn. This reiterates what we all know. She knows NOTHING about food prep," wrote another critic.

"Wow, salmonella with your snacks, anyone?" added one particularly concerned viewer.
