Omid Scobie has written biographies on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

Meghan Markle's biographer has penned his third royal book, with the UK and Commonwealth rights being acquired by Sphere Fiction.

Rather than delivering another tell-all biography about the royal family, Scobie has ventured into fiction.

His new book centres on a Buckingham Palace press officer in what is described as a romantic fiction, marking a significant departure from the journalist's previous royal-focused non-fiction works.

The book, titled "Royal Spin", represents Scobie's first foray into fictional storytelling while still drawing on his extensive knowledge of royal affairs.

Sphere Fiction has acquired the UK and Commonwealth rights to "Royal Spin", it was announced today.

Scobie has collaborated with US young adult fiction author Robin Benway to create the novel, which is scheduled for release at the beginning of 2026.

This timeline gives the authors nearly a year to complete and polish the manuscript before it reaches readers.

The fictional tale appears to draw on Scobie's extensive experience covering royal affairs and palace communications with Benway's fiction expertise.

The book has already attracted significant attention from the entertainment industry, with Universal Television securing the rights to develop a series based on the text.

This deal was finalised before the book's publication and will bring Scobie and Benway's fictional palace press officer to screens worldwide.

Omid Scobie penned a biography on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2020 titled Finding Freedom.

In November 2020, Meghan's legal team admitted that she had permitted a close friend to communicate with Scobie and Durand.

They claimed the communication was "so the true position... could be communicated to the authors to prevent any further misrepresentation".

This confirmed the duchess's participation in the book, which representatives for the Sussexes initially denied.

Scobie also published a royal biography in November 2023, titled Endgame.
