Meghan Markle has suffered a trademark blow as the Duchess of Sussex failed to sign the documents for her trademark application for 'as ever', according to reports.

The Trademark Office reportedly told her she must clarify what she means by "various items" – including "spoons serving jams and fruit preserves" – and to list all goods and services "by their international class number".

The duchess also failed to sign the document, without which it will not be "properly verified", according to the Daily Mail.

Writing in his collum, Richard Eden wrote: "Bizarrely, Meghan made the same mistake – failing to sign the document – when trying to trademark 'The Tig' – the name of her old lifestyle blog – and again with 'Archetypes', the name she chose for her short-lived Spotify podcast."

After encountering trademark issues with her initial project, American Riviera Orchard, the duchess renamed her company.

That first proposal was rebranded after her application was challenged by Harry & David, an American institution with annual sales of £1.7billion and the trademark "Royal Riviera."

Meghan launched her As Ever rebranded venture with a website featuring a photo of herself holding hands with daughter Lilibet.

Announcing the rebranded name, Meghan released a video filmed in the Sussexes' Montecito garden, which includes a brief appearance from Prince Harry, who can be heard saying "It's recording" as he hands Meghan the phone.

Wearing a white linen shirt and blue jeans, the Duchess told followers: "The cat's out of the bag. I'm shocked we've kept this a secret for so long."

The rebrand came just two weeks before Meghan's Netflix show, "With Love, Meghan," was launched on March 4.

"In two weeks my show is coming out, which I'm so excited for. And also my business, which I think there has been a lot of curiosity about," she shared in the announcement.

The Netflix connection extends beyond her show, with the streaming giant now serving as a business partner for As Ever.

"Then Netflix came on, not just as my partner in the show, but as my partner in my business, which was huge," the duchess revealed.

Meghan explained her decision to rebrand, saying: "Last year, I had thought, 'American Riviera', that sounds like such a great name. It's my neighborhood; it's a nickname for Santa Barbara, but it limited me to things that were just manufactured and grown in this area."

The new name carries deeper meaning for the duchess. "'As Ever' essentially means as it's always been, and if you've followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I've always loved cooking and crafting and gardening - this is what I do," she said.

The rebrand has already faced challenges, triggering a plagiarism dispute in Spain and with a New York vintage clothing designer.
