Meghan Markle will not be joining Prince Harry in the UK next week for the Invictus Games anniversary service

Meghan Markle will not be returning to the UK next week with Prince Harry because she "knows she would get a bad reception", Royal Editor for the Mail on Sunday, Charlotte Griffiths has claimed.

This comes as the Sussexes confirmed Prince Harry will be flying back to his homeland solo, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his Invictus Games.

However, the Duchess will be joining Harry in Nigeria for a trip after the Invictus Games service, after discovering she is "43 per cent Nigerian".

The couple have accepted an invitation from the country's chief of defence staff, its highest-ranking military official.

Reacting to Meghan's decision to skip the UK visit, GB News host Patrick Christys argued that if Meghan is "all for the Invictus Games", why would she not come with him to Britain?

Griffiths agreed and said the decision is "so sad", as Prince Harry will now be "so lonely" attending the event by himself when he is used to attending Invictus events with Meghan by his side.

Griffiths also noted that "no senior members of the Royal Family are going to be there" either, making the Invictus Games service at St Paul's Cathedral on May 8 "very stark".

She added: "That's where his parents got married. It's going to be a very sombre and senior event."

Expressing her concern for Prince Harry, Griffiths told GB News: "It's a really important part of Harry's soul, and the kind of thing he'd want his wife, maybe even his kids by his side for."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Griffiths explained: "Meghan is leaving him there alone, and I just think he's going to cast a really lonely portrait of a man without his friends around him, without his family and without senior members of the Royal Family. And no wife there with him as well."

Patrick then claimed: "Apparently no senior members of the Royal Family have got plans to see him at all?"

Griffiths revealed: "He's staying in a hotel, he's not staying in a royal residence. I think he'll be here for a couple of days, not a week.

"I just don't think Meghan will let him out of her sight for that long. I think a couple of days is all he'll manage."

Detailing Prince Harry's plans for after his trip to the UK, Griffiths discussed the Sussexes' visit to Nigeria, and how Meghan will be "prepping her outfits for the show-stopping tour of Nigeria".

Griffiths told Patrick: "She will be in Montecito, prepping her outfits and getting ready for the tour, but she didn't join him for the bit that really mattered.

"If she was to come to the UK, it would be really difficult. It would bring up terrible memories of the past for her and awkward moments when she was in various churches and things.

"But she's a strong and tough woman, we know that about her, and she's always telling us how brave she is. So if I were her, I would I'd be brave and walk up those steps. It would look great for her Netflix show anyway."
