Spotify continues to be splashed across the Sussexes site despite the brand breaking up with the royals weeks ago

Though Spotify bailed out of its role on the Archetypes podcast last month, the Sussexes’ still laud the brand on their website.

Spotify severed ties with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, after the Sussexes produced just 12 podcast episodes and a Christmas special over 31 months.

In a move that may be either Sussexes’ still hoping or sloppy housekeeping, references to the Spotify deal in the present tense remain championed on the Archewell website.

The website reads: “Archewell Audio will join Spotify and their global reach—180 million Premium subscribers and 406 million monthly active users around the world—to spotlight diverse perspectives and voices.

“As part of the partnership, The Duke and Duchess through Archewell Audio produce podcasts and shows that build community through shared experiences, powerful narratives, and universal values.”

Meghan Markle has since been accused by whistleblowers of faking a number of interviews for her axed Spotify podcast.

Bill Simmons, Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetization at Spotify, used his own podcast as a platform to rant against the Sussexes.

On Friday, Simmons said: "The f***ing grifters. That's the podcast we should have launched with them.”

Simmons claimed: “He just whines about s**t and keeps giving interviews. Who gives a s**t? Who cares about your life? You weren’t even the favourite son.”

He continued: “You live in f***ing Montecito and you just sell documentaries and podcasts and nobody cares what you have to say about anything unless you talk about the royal family and you just complain about them.”

While the couple reportedly bagged £18million from the deal, reports emerged that Meghan had faked interviews on her podcast, palming off the grunt work onto her staffers.

Meghan Markle has been accused of ordering staffers to interview guests deemed less VIP onto her staffers, adding her voice to the discussion afterwards.

Rumours had been swirling for some time over the extent of the Duchess’ involvement in the project, with the Spectator’s Cockburn branding Meghan “America’s laziest interviewer” back in November 2022.

The comments came following a major slip up by a guest, that might well have been intentional shade throwing, which appeared to reveal that Meghan doesn’t do her own stunts.

Taking to social media after an appearance in the episode To B’ or not to B’ of Meghan’s podcast, New York journalist Allison Yarrow thanked an audio producer called Farrah Safarfi for being an “excellent interviewer”.

Yet, in the episode which “explored the origin and plague” of the word b***h, Yarrow could be heard apparently discussing “the origin and plague” of the word b***h with Meghan.

Andy Scott, a staffer at Spotify’s Gimlet Media, has since taken to Twitter to explain: “We did occasionally have producers do interviews, though never the main ones, and we never edited her asking questions into interviews that producers conducted.”

The US Patent and Trademark office has recently refused to grant a trademark for the Archetypes podcast, on the grounds of confusion with an existing Arizonian company.

The Sussexes’ were seeking exclusive rights to the name Archetypes in relation to 'downloadable audio recordings and podcasts' for anything concerning the 'cultural treatment of women and stereotypes facing women'.

However, a trademark for Archetypes LLC already exists, secured by an Arizonian firm in 2015 and granting use for a series of books and articles about 'nutrition, fitness, sexuality, psychological self-improvement.

Taking an arms length approach to the application, Harry and Meghan both failed to sign their application to the regulatory body.

Representing the couple, Marjorie Witter Norman, of Los Angeles firm Willkie, Farr & Gallagher, has applied for another three months to iron out the creases and get the trademark application over the line.
