Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could be at risk of “financial trouble” within the next 18 months, a royal expert has warned as Netflix could have “less interest” in the couple following the end of The Crown.
In a major blow to the couple, royal commentator and expert Richard Fitzwilliams explained that the duke and duchess’s multi-million dollar deal with the streaming giant is expected to run out in 2025.
However, fears for the couple have erupted over whether the platform will renew their contract before the end of next year.
The couple are believed to have at least two projects in the pipeline, with Harry reportedly working on a show about polo and Meghan on a show about cooking and gardening.
The release of the Duchess of Sussex’s show is likely to coincide with her new brand America Riveria Orchard, which was teased back in March.
According to the royal commentator, one reason for the trouble could be down to the recent end of The Crown.
“It [the deal] runs out next year and Netflix are no longer producing the series of The Crown, as they previously were,” Fitzwilliams told the Mirror.
“They might therefore have less interest in the Sussexes.
ROYAL LATEST:“If they lost this contract, with Archewell, their business and charitable foundation, having so few donors, they might well be in financial trouble.
“Since their exposés of royal life has made megabucks, but little else has made money, the Royal Family better hope that this unpredictable and ruthlessly ambitious couple stays with Netflix.”
The topic of the couple’s finances has previously been a talking point of royal experts, with royal commentator Michael Cole suggesting that Harry’s ongoing and repeated legal challenges could “dissipate his fortune”.
“It’s an extremely expensive process”, he told GB News.
“Particularly when you’re paying your own costs, as Prince Harry is now.
“The prince of litigation has been back in the lists today, he’s got several cases going.
“It’s hard to keep up sometimes but he’s taking on the red top tabloids and the middle market tabloids and he wants to win the day.
“Whether he is wise to do that I’m not sure. You can burn through a lot of money very, very quickly.
“Reports say that he and his wife are worth $500million. Whether that's true or not, it seems a very high figure to me.
“You can very, very quickly dissipate your fortune by investing too much in the law.”
