Producers need more time to 'dot the is and cross the ts' before the documentary is released according to an insider

A bombshell exposé documentary about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has been mysteriously delayed - sending speculation flying over just what could be inside.

The documentary, led by royal reporter Ulrike Grunewald for German broadcaster ZDF, had seen investigative journalists shipped to California to unearth "secrets" about the Sussexes - but now, a number of legal concerns have seen the report put on hold.

Grunewald's team had made the near 12-hour trip from Germany to California - where the controversial royal pair live in Montecito - to speak to neighbours about the Duke and Duchess.

It had emerged months ago that Harry and Meghan would not "welcome" the documentary and were "phobic about their privacy" - but now, the film has been "put on hold".

Producers will need more time to "dot the is and cross the ts" on as-yet-unknown allegations, the Express claimed.

A source told the outlet: "The team wants to make sure that everything used on Meghan Markle is correct.

"Every detail will be checked and double-checked to make sure that it is legally sound and factually correct.

"There will be 'eyes' on the project, so the team wants to make sure that they have dotted the is and crossed the ts, as it were.

"There are obviously concerns over what revelations might be contained in the documentary and the situation is being closely monitored."

Grunewald herself confirmed the reports, writing on social media: "The documentary about Harry and Meghan has to wait - research is still underway."

Speculation has simmered over the news, with some suggesting that filmmakers have spoken to the Sussexes' neighbour Frank McGinity - who has previously gone public on his enmity for the couple.

Further insiders have raised concerns over Meghan's own personal objections to topics covered in the documentary.

In May, OK magazine revealed that "there are many things that both of them, especially Meghan, don't necessarily want in the public domain".

An insider told the outlet: "It's no secret that they both led colourful lives before they met each other, and while Harry has spoken about a lot of mistakes in his book, there are still things about Meghan we don't know."

Grunewald has previously released documentaries including "Princess Diana's Dangerous Legacy", "The Queen and the Power of Images", and "Fergie! - The Duchess and the Secret of the Windsors".

And last year, the reporter spoke to Harry himself at the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf - where she revealed that he and Meghan "seem intimate and very close".

"Either that, or they are very good actors," she added.
